About Us
u-print.com is the quick print and copy shop based in the Barnes Wallis Building (Students' Union) on the Sackville Street Campus of the University of Manchester. Our main services are printing and copying in full colour and mono (black & white). Additionally, we offer a range of complementary services such as soft and hardback binding, design/desktop publishing, laminating and booklet making. We always strive to produce customers' work on a while-you-wait basis. Details on these services can be found via the menu on the left.
u-print.com is the original Manchester student print shop and was previously known as Manutech CopyShop and umistprint.com. Our dedicated staff have well over 40 years' combined experience so you can be certain that you will get a quick and professional service. Furthermore, u-print.com is part of the University of Manchester Students' Union (UMSU) and any profit made is returned to UMSU for the benefit of Manchester students.
Our Opening Times
Summer Vacation: June 9th-September 19th 2008
- Open Monday to Friday 9.00am to 3.00pm
- From September 1st onwards, open Monday to Friday 9.00am to 4.30pm
The above times are subject to alteration and there may also be minor variations which will be posted here as soon as possible.
Our normal opening times are Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 5.00pm during University of Manchester attendance periods. We do not close for lunch.
Please note that we are closed on all Bank Holidays, for eleven days in July/August, and for an extended period over Christmas & New Year.
Please note that we strictly adhere to our opening times without exception and that all work must be completed, collected and paid for by the stated closing time or you will have to wait until the next working day. There may be occasions, especially during busy periods, where you might not get your work done straightaway if you arrive shortly before closing time. Please bear this in mind to minimise disappointment.

Dissertation printing & binding
If you need to print and/or bind your University of Manchester dissertation this September, here are the important facts:
- The softback form of binding we produce is channel binding
- Lettering on the spine is compulsory.
- Cost is £4.50 per copy, inclusive of lettering.
- Normally takes 5-10 minutes.
- The closer to the deadline, the longer the queue....

Minimise problems - Make a PDF
If you require printing from a non-graphic file format i.e. not EPS, JPEG, TIFF, etc, please bring or send a PDF file. This helps minimise problems with missing fonts and layout changing that we often get, especially with Microsoft Word and Publisher files. It's not guaranteed to be 100% correct all the time, but it's usually better than a Word file.
This also means that when we are busy, you might not have to wait for a PC to become available as a PDF can be printed from any of our computers.
If you use an Apple Mac, you can create a PDF using the Print command. If you use Microsoft Windows, you can get free software to make PDFs called PrimoPDF.
Fitted T-shirts now available
We now have fitted t-shirts in women's sizes (extra small to extra large). See the T-shirt page for more details.
Polypropylene - we've got it covered!
Due to customer requests, we now stock 500 micron translucent polypropylene covers for use with comb, wire and metalbind channel binding. The cost is an additional 12p per cover used.
Email problems
You may be experiencing difficulties when sending emails to us with messages being returned ('bounced'). This is due to a new anti-junk email policy implemented by the University of Manchester to stop the huge amounts of 'spam' being sent to staff and students.
