Send filesAs an alternative to bringing files in to u-print.com, you can send files to us over the internet. Please see this list for the programs that we can print from. Minimise problems - Send a PDFIf you are sending a non-graphic file format i.e. not EPS, JPEG, TIFF, etc, please send a PDF file. This helps minimise problems with missing fonts and layout changing that we often get, especially with Microsoft Word and Publisher files. If you use an Apple Mac, you can create a PDF using the Print command. If you use Microsoft Windows, you can get free software to make PDFs called PrimoPDF. Web upload
The web upload option allows you to send one file at a time via a simple webpage form. You can also specify various options to ensure we produce the work to your satisfaction. There is no practical limit to the size of file that can be sent. If you have problems with the web upload facility, you could consider using one of the following services: using contact@u-print.com as the recipient's email address. Please note that the above information is provided as is; we have no affiliation with any of these sites and we cannot offer any advice or support on using them.
We do not normally recommend that you send files via email (see below for explanation). However if you cannot use Web Upload or one of the alternative services, files can be sent as an email attachment to one of the following address:
Please use the correct address to ensure that your message reaches us as fast as possible. Ensure that you include full details of your requirements with the email. Problems with Sending Files by EmailEmail used to be reliable; messages could be sent around the world in seconds. However, the explosion in junk email or 'spam' can often overload email servers, disrupting the smooth transmission of messages or even blocking them altogether. The measures that ISPs and companies put in place to deal with junk email can also introduce delays and blackages. Another problem has been created as computers become more powerful and broadband is more widespread, so files that people send as attachments have massively increased in size. As emails tend to travel from sender to recipient via any number of servers in between, the likelihood of a delay somewhere along the line - especially with the junk email mentioned problem - is high. You may experience difficulties when sending emails to us with messages being returned ('bounced'). This may well be due to the anti-junk email policy implemented by the University of Manchester to stop the huge amounts of 'spam' being sent to staff and students. These measures also introduce a delay of at least 20 minutes for all emails coming onto the campus from the rest of the internet. Depending on your ISP, this delay may be increased significantly, or even prevent messages from reaching us altogether. Use Web Upload to ensure that your files reach us straight away, especially if your job is time-critical. There are also limits on the size of attachments sent with emails. These are 20MB for contact@u-print.com and 50MB for uprint@umsu.manchester.ac.uk. However, when a file is sent as an attachment it is encoded by the email system which increases its size, therefore practical working limits are lower: 15MB or 37MB respectively - possibly more, possibly less depending on the attachment itself. You would therefore be advised to always use the Web Upload facility if your file is close to or over the limit above. |
