Hardback binding

For traditional thesis & dissertation binding

We are agents for Walker & Co. Bookbinders based at Salford University. They offer a 2-3 working day service as standard, with express options also available. This is traditional harback binding with pages sewn and glued together for extra strength and covered in hard-wearing buckram cloth.

The cost is dependent on the thickness of the document. For up to 300 pages (80gsm A4), the price is £24.00 each; for up to 500 pages £25.00. These prices include gold lettering on the spine of the book. If you require lettering on the front board, the prices are £2.50 per line for the first four lines, or £36.00 and £37.00 respectively for 5 lines (extra lines £2.50 each). Please note that collections and deliveries are normally made once a day only in the late afternoon (normally between 3-4p.m.). Our advice is to bring completed work to us by 3p.m. to guarantee collection on that day and to aim to collect on the next working day after the expected delivery date in case of unexpected delays. You may be able to bring work to us later and to collect your binding before we close on the delivery date however this may not always be possible so please do not rely on this. During University vacations, collections & deliveries are made earlier in the afternoon; please check with us.

Instant hardback binding

If you want something a bit better than softback binding but do not need traditional hardback binding, then we have instant hardback binding using the channel binding method. Like the softback channel binding, up to 150 pages (80gsm paper) can be bound in a single volume at a cost of just £5.00 in a matter of minutes; if your document has 150-300 pages then we do have limited supplies of the larger covers but stocks are dwindling fast. (The manufacturers no longer make the large sizes.) We are also able to letter the spine of the binding for an additional £1.50. It is not possible to letter the front of these bindings. Please note that this type of binding is not accepted by The University of Manchester, Manchester Metropolitan University or the University of Salford for their dissertation and thesis submissions which require traditional hardback binding (see above).

Binding is zero rated for VAT purposes.
